Threatened Species Program

Thousands of animals and plant species around the world face extinction every day, with a species disapearing rate up to 1,000 time higher than normal. To help address this the Global Facility, World Bank Group, and International Union of Conservation of Nature (IUCN) are launching the Save our Species (SOS) program with the goal to build a major species conservation fund by 2015. This fund will demonstrate that the species conservation does and can work in helping species recoup their population.

Some of the major members are Robert B. Zoellick, president of the World Bank Group. This group also deals with helping developing countries, and poverty stricken contries.

I think that conservation of endangered species is very important. Many people do not realize how important some species are in our enviornment and by taken them out, as in letting them going extinct can cause a damino affet of which other species would be affected and become endangered as well. The animals and plants in our enviornment were put there for a specific reason, to help it function and flow. Sooner or later byt letting to many animal and plant species disapear could start effecting us.

  1. Sounds like a valuable project, Sarah! I'd love to hear some more reflective questions or critical thinking about the campaign. Unfortunately, this link isn't working. Could you repost with an updated link?

  2. Good find. I think that saving endangered species is an important thing to. Especially with the amount of forests being cut down, and people building. There is even the huge problem of invasive species populating in areas that they shouldn't and causing animals to become endangered as well. I feel that people should start opening their eyes more to our earth, how it keeps us living because of the animals that populate it. We need to start thinking about more than just ourselves and giving back to the animals.
