The Clorox Company goes LEED Platinum

On Setpember 20th, it was announced by the Corporate Social Responsibility Newswire that The Clorox Company's headquarters has gone "green." Not only have they officially been deemed a green building, but they went all out, receiving LEED's Platinum certification in the category of energy and environmental design.

As a rather large and successful company manufacturing and distributing various household items ranging from cleaners to food products, The Clorox Company is an influential role model for up and coming companies who strive for greatness. This is why I think it's great that they have taken the initiative and spent the time and money to improve their building and reduce their environmental footprint in the way of operations and maintenance.

Says Clorox CEO and Chairman Don Knauss, "We're taking action to achieve sustainability improvements throughout the company--from operations to the products we manufacture." He continues, "Securing LEED Platinum certification is another example of our progress in making environmental sustainability core to how we do business."

I chose to write about this report because I'm interesting in "green" engineering and architecture. I have always taken interest in environmentally sustainable practices, and green buildings--especially those certified LEED Platinum--are some the most environmentally sustainable structures we have. I think it's great that large companies like Clorox are taking this initiative and really putting in the time and effort to show how businesses throughout the world should operate.
