Recycle Coffee Grounds

Recycle Coffee Grounds, is an article that talks about how solid waste is a major problem within advanced nations worldwide. Much of this waste is coffee, although it may be a small percent of what makes up landfills, two and a half billion pounds of coffee are imported to the United States every year. This equals out to be one million tons of waste grounds. Although many people do not think of coffee being a big deal, thinking about how many households, restaurants, stores, etc. produce and sell the coffee is huge.
Along with the Dutch Bros. proposals in class, this article talks about different uses we could put forward to avoid adding coffee to our already enormous landfills. Alternatives like, dumping coffee grounds down the sink to help eliminate grease and build up in drains. Coffee is very absorbent. We could use this quality for many things in our day to day lives. Coffee can be used for cleaning, fertilizer, sold to farmers worldwide to richen their soils and food they produce. Making coffee a option, instead of putting it to waste, and recycling it for other uses would not only save money in a lot of aspects, but be saving the environment as well. Coffee is a major crop all over the world, making coffee be a recycling habit would eliminate a lot of the problems we have everyday when it comes to pollution and landfills. This change can be simple and is an advantage for anyone whether it is used as a cleaning mechanism or fertilizer, etc.

  1. I always heard that coffee grounds were the best thing to use for your gardens. Its amazing how many uses we can get out of simple coffee grounds. I would love to see not only Dutch Bros but all the coffee shops and stands around here implement doing some sort of recycle program with there left over coffee grounds. Enjoyed reading this article.
