This article, from 2001, praises the general contracting company R&H Construction for their safety in building the Adidas America headquarters in North Portland. According to the author, Jeremy Vesbach, Adidas was so pleased when they reached 100,000 hours of safety that they halted to the project and catered a huge lunch to all the workers. At any time, there are 150 to 200 workers on the job site, and for nobody to have an accident in construction in this time span is pretty significant.
I found this article rather topical for two reasons. First, because our class just heard a proposal about improving the safety of construction workers through communication, and second, because several of my family members work for R&H. Being a Construction Engineering Management major, this directly pertains to my area of study and the field that I expect to work in. I think it is undeniable that this is an outstanding record of safety in the field of construction, and R&H ought to be praised and exemplified.

Knowing that anything could happen at any given time and that this company took that extra step to insure safety is amazing. That is a lot of hours being around dangerous hazards and having absolutely no accidents. To me that shows competence and leadership in that company.
